Growth cartilage in children is located at the epiphyseal plate, the growth plate, which sits between the epiphysis and metaphysis of long bones. This region is where endochondral ossification happens to lengthen bones during growth, and it remains cartilage until puberty when it fuses to form the epiphyseal line. The diaphysis is the bone shaft, the joint surface is covered by articular cartilage for smooth movement, and apophyseal insertions are tendon/ligament attachment sites rather than growth regions.
